Mental Health & Wellbeing at Royal Park

At Royal Park, we are deeply committed to fostering mental health and wellbeing for our children, staff, and parents. We recognize that everyone faces life’s challenges, which can sometimes make us feel vulnerable. Our aim is to create a supportive environment where additional emotional support is readily available.

Promoting a Culture of Understanding

We strive to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. Our goal is to raise awareness and encourage open conversations among all stakeholders, empowering everyone to play a role in promoting positive mental health. We want our children to feel confident in managing change and stress, and to know how to access help when needed. By teaching them about maintaining positive mental health, we equip them for success both in school and beyond.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to engage children with real-life themes and current issues. It features rich vocabulary texts that spark discussion and helps children to find their voice. This emphasis on communication fosters confidence and has a significant impact on mental wellbeing. Additionally, our Monday assemblies focus on strategies for self-support and peer support, reinforcing our commitment to mental health.

Dedicated Support for Mental Health

We are proud to have trained staff members who specialise in supporting children's mental health. Our team includes:

  • Five Mental Health First Aiders

  • Two qualified leaders for Draw and Talk sessions

  • Four staff members training in LEGO therapy

Zones of Regulation

To help children develop self-awareness and emotional regulation, we have implemented the Zones of Regulation program. This framework teaches children to identify their emotions and understand the best states of alertness for different situations.

Through engaging lessons, children learn to recognize their emotional "zones" and discover strategies to navigate them. This process enhances their emotional vocabulary, improves empathy by interpreting facial expressions, and fosters problem-solving skills. Importantly, we emphasise that all zones—Red and Yellow included—are valid and not inherently “bad.” Our approach is neutral, focusing on understanding rather than judgement.
